Multi-award winning trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf today unveiled his new single ‘Money’, featuring Erick the Architect (Flatbush Zombies, Beast Coast). This track is the latest single from his upcoming album – his 17th to date – Capacity To Love (scheduled for release on November 4, 2022), later in several collaborations, including De La Soul, D Smoke, Gregory Porter and JP Cooper.
This new project closely follows Ibrahim Maalouf’s latest album produced with Angélique Kidjo, Queen of Sheba, a critically acclaimed opus, as did his sold-out stage performance at London’s Barbican last July. The single ‘Money’ arrives just in time, before the start of an 8-date North American tour, starting in Montreal on September 23, it will stop in Quebec, Toronto, Boston, New York, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
‘Money’ – criticizes a system that encourages the exploitation of some people over others, in the name of money – it is the meeting of the percussive pace of Erick, who adds the characteristic quarter tones in the style of the Lebanese trumpeter . About his collaboration with Erick The Architect,
Ibrahim explained:
“I’ve been wanting to see Erik for a few years. I am a huge Flatbush Zombies fan, and listen to them regularly. So when I found out that my label in the United States, Quincy Jones Productions, started a collaboration with him, as a solo artist under the name Erick the Architect, I took the opportunity to ask the team to organize something for us, so that we can be in touch. And one day, we met again. I presented him with a track and the vision I had in mind. It was about the relationship with money and the control of your mind that you can use on others if you have it. I really want to make a song about this theme. The idea is to imagine people as pawns, controlled and controlled, like in the movie The Matrix. Erik immediately liked the concept. »
